Now for those of you that pay attention to anything I post I'm sure you were aware that I'd be back for this one. I will get back to evo at another time, this right here just completely threw me for a loop. After I read about it, I sat in the car for a while and I wondered why I didn't see this coming sooner. It is now thq's last stand, all of their studios are closing, licenses are being lost, games are being terrible, and there's a lot of pressure on what could be their final game. Am I saying the game HAS to be good? Absolutely not. Games do not have to be works of art by ANY standard to be profitable (insert call of duty title here).
Now what do I mean by that? I'm pretty sure the majority will agree that MWF3 wasn't exactly a blockbuster masterpiece. I don't play it myself, but I've heard from long time hard core fans that it was more of the same. Also, take a look at madden, people argue the fact that every year is just a roster update. The only thing that matters is that they both make money, and a LOT of it at that. Besides, Madden 2020 could be the exact same game as madden 2019 but you won't know that until after somebody buys it, and once you buy it there's nothing you can do about that. Review magazines and websites get PAID to give games decent to good reviews. Half the time the writers can't even put together a proper paragraph let alone know anything about the game they're reviewing, these people don't care if you buy it or not.
Which brings us back to THQ and this new WWE games strategy. First of all yuke's is fucking terrible and I hope they never get to make another wrestling game ever again. Anyone who is a devout fan of the series knows this which is why the majority of the older hardcore fans did NOT plan to buy wwe 13 after last year's atrocity (myself included). How will they get that big audience to come back?? Let's put some attitude era wrestlers in, give it that no mercy feel, that crowd will like that. This angle was not working, people like myself could care less about roster the game never changes. BAM they got it, make stone cold the face of wwe 13, no, don't stop there, let's give him his own edition, it will cost a little bit more.
I personally have NOT missed a collector's edition of a smackdown game except for wwe 12 for obvious reasons. Now they go ahead and put not only my favorite superstar, but arguably the most popular/greatest wrestler of all time ALL over the box. I'm sold, I might not even play the damn game, but the goal is accomplished, people are GOING to BUY this. So you know what? (what?) touche THQ, you got me to give you my money again, to bring yukes garbage into my house one more time. SO come this fall, there WILL be YET ANOTHER very strong and in depth review of a wwe game, so wait on me before you give them your money will ya??
